As the technological evolution of communications advances at an exponential rate, it has become increasingly essential to have an infrastructure capable of keeping up with the current demand. Such technological infrastructure requires adequate space where all termination components of structured cabling and telecommunications equipment, such as servers, computers, telephony, can be accommodated and housed. Therefore, when designing a telecommunications room, it must be considered, besides voice and data only, the incorporation of other components currently operating on a single network, like alarm, security, audio and cable television devices, in addition to other critical systems.
All these devices and equipment are housed in one of the essential components considered crucial in any communications infrastructure, known as racks and/or cabinets. Such metal structures are built using standardized dimensions to make them compatible with equipment from different manufacturers; so as to ensure the effective distribution and prioritization of the data center space.
It is important to keep in mind that this is not just a matter of selecting a space that meets the purpose of a telecommunications room but also one that complies with specific requirements in terms of size, open spaces, electric supply, security and fire protection, environmental control (free from humidity, dust and other pollutants), grounding connections, among others. These rooms are key not only for the physical allocation of the space, but also as a means to centralize information, equipment, networks and connections into a single location. This makes management, inspection and maintenance much easier, without affecting the operation while guaranteeing the expected performance of every device in the installation.
